Nice has 19 museums and art galleries, 32 listed historic buildings and 300 hectares of parks, gardens, forests and green spaces, as well as 150 fountains and ponds.
The old town, dominated by the Castle, Place Garibaldi and Le Paillon, is a very lively area. Also worth seeing are the Tour Bellanda (circular 19th century bastion), the Naval Museum and Place St François, Ste Réparate Cathedral and the port..
The seafront with the Promenade des Anglais has a sweeping view of the Bay of Angels (from Cape Nice to Fort Carré in Antibes), and the Masséna Square, "Espace" and Museum.
Cimiez Hill is home to the aristocratic district of Nice as well as several museums (Marc Chagall Museum, Matisse Museum, archaeological museum) and other curiosities (amphitheatre, monastery etc.)
The Western districts house the Fine Art Museum, the A.Jakovsky Naive Art Museum, the Miniature Train Museum and Phoenix Park (botanical gardens with over 2,000 species of plants and animals).

The countryside around Nice offers many surprises. The "Corniche de la Riviera" (coast road between Nice and Menton) has three levels: the high "Grande Corniche" offering stunning panoramic views (culminating at 450 m), the "Moyenne Corniche" with its pretty views of the shoreline, and the lower "Corniche Inférieure" running through all the coastal resorts.
